22-24 Months

pin   22 to 24 Months

As was the case in the previous three months, your child will continue to experience a “Vocabulary Explosion.” To reiterate, a vocabulary explosion is the point in a child’s language development where his vocabulary is drastically increasing. Some children reach a spoken word count of 600 words by the time they turn 2 years old.

Your child is now able to understand two-step requests. For example, she can understand when you tell her, “Get your doll and bring it here.” Furthermore, your child will start to understand the concept of opposites (tall, short, big, little, etc.). At this time, however, your child will still not be able to grasp abstract concepts. In other words, Intangible things that cannot be viewed or touched are still difficult concepts to decipher. In addition, size and spatial awareness are not yet accurate at this stage.

Milestones: 22-24 Months

  • When your child is asked the name of an object in a picture or other resource, he is able to say it correctly.
  • Your child can understand two-step requests. (e.g.: Find your hat and give it to Daddy.)
  • Your child can say around 50 different words. (Perfect pronunciation is not necessary.)
